Sepsis 1

Laura Legg

Description

This is module number one for Sepsis, Other Acquired Infectious and Parasitic Diseases.

In this module we’re going to take a look at an overview of sepsis and other sepsis related illnesses coded in chapter one.

Sepsis coding can be challenging for coders, it requires knowledge of sepsis definitions, protocols, and quality reporting for complex decision-making. During the coding process.

Our goal in this session is to support inpatient coders and make those decisions easier.

Our objectives are to understand the evolution of sepsis definitions, and to review the most recent definition, which is Sepsis 3.

We’re going to take a look at the surviving sepsis campaign and how that came about and the results of it.

We’re going to also review the 2020 sepsis coding guidelines.

And finally, we’re going to discuss linking severity of illness for sepsis accurate data and DRG assignment.
