Description
This is module number two for the pulmonary and respiratory chapter of ICD-10.
In this module we are going to look at an overview of the guidelines and other instructions for coding in Chapter 10.
Our objectives are to review the official coding guidelines and current coding clinic issues for pulmonary and respiratory coding.
We’re going to examine some cases for impact of MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment, as well as looking at the challenges of coding multiple respiratory conditions.
We’re going to look at both of the two DRG systems, MS-DRG, our Medicare severity DRGs as well as APR-DRGs, which are all patient refined DRGs can be used as a payment methodology in some states, and also by many state Medicaid programs.
The two DRG systems have many similarities for assignment of APR-DRGs. There are highly complex statistical algorithms and rerouting logic use to determine the final DRG and severity subclass.
By comparison, MS-DRGs are more strict forward into it, even transparent. So we’re going to spend some time on those in this session.
